So apparently Mosquitos love to attack me and my oldest daughter.  This is no fun as I hate using Deet if I can avoid it… but seeing that where I live there are lots of mosquitos… well sometimes you just gotta put on the repellant.  Having said that we often don’t always apply it “in time”, and so the itching of mosquito bites starts (for my oldest).  Inevitably, the constant and vigorous scratching leads to her breaking skin and bleeding.  Once the scabs are there… she constantly picks at them.

We are at our WITS end as to how to stop this.  Does anyone have any ideas?

We’ve tried positive rewards, negative consequences, ignoring it, nothing seems to work.

Please help!

So I was at whole foods tonite with the kids and my oldest says: ” Dad there’s pat!” I’m like “where” and she points to this can of soup.

What do you think? (yes you have to know pat)

So last nite I was down my mom’s house helping mom and dad move furniture.  The reason for the movement is that my 92 year old grandfather is moving in with them.  Pretty much to spend his last days being cared for by my mom.  His mind is pretty much all their but he’s down to 110 lbs and the battery on his pacemaker is at the end of it’s life and the doctors have switched his medicines to be more comfort based than life prolonging.

When we were done helping, we unpacked some of my grandfather’s stuff and I got to look at some of his papers.  I found his discharge papers from the army.  He was a Private, Carpenter General in the 350th infantry.  It was REALLY neat seeing his papers, I saw that he got a couple of medals, a Victory medal and a medal for being in the German theatre.   It was very cool looking at… but then I got to thinking.  In all my life I had spent TONS of time with my grandfather and never really had the opportunity to sit down with him and ask him about his adventures in the army.  I don’t regret any of the time I spent with him but I now wish that I had had the forsight to talk to him about growing up and serving in a world war.

My grandfather is a wonderful man and I’ll miss him greatly when he’s gone…

It’s been hard to log posts lately… I’ve been working pretty hard.  I have been thinking about posting tho … does that count? ;)

At work we were finishing out a sprint and I took some vacation so life was pretty busy.

For vacation we took the girls north and when camping in N. Conway NH and went to Storyland.  Much fun was had.

At work I’ve been working on a big State machine that was written in C++ … been a while since I’ve done C++ but it’s coming back pretty quickly.

Anyway I hope to post a bit more frequently than I have been.
